What steps should you take?
Are you wondering how to cancel your contract? The procedure depends on the reason for cancelling your natural gas contract. If you are moving home, it is your responsibility to inform your current energy supplier of your intention to terminate your gas subscription. You can contact their customer service by phone or complete the process online via a dedicated cancellation form. Most gas suppliers in France offer digital services that make this process easier.
However, if you are switching supplier, your new provider will handle everything for you, including contacting your previous supplier to notify them of the gas contract cancellation.
What timeframes should you respect?
If you are cancelling your gas contract due to a move, it is recommended to start the process at least two weeks before the date you plan to leave your home. Please note that some contracts may include a notice period that you will need to respect.
At the same time, remember to take out a new gas or electricity contract to avoid being left without power or hot water on the day you move in. If you have chosen to switch gas suppliers, let your new provider manage the cancellation to ensure there is no interruption to your gas supply.
How much does it cost to cancel a gas contract?
The cancellation itself is completely free, regardless of your energy supplier. The disconnection of your gas meter must be carried out by a technician appointed by your gas supplier. However, you will still need to pay your final bill, which corresponds to the energy you have consumed up to the end of your contract.
Within four weeks following the effective date of your cancellation, you will receive a final invoice confirming the end of your contract, along with the amount corresponding to your last gas consumption.
