How is the gas subscription rate calculated at ENGIE?
Are you looking to subscribe to gas for your new home? Or perhaps you simply want to switch gas providers? No worries: whatever your situation, we explain everything you need to know about the natural gas subscription rate at ENGIE.
Gas Service Activation Fees Related to Your Move: Don’t Confuse GRDF and ENGIE
Whether you decide to subscribe to a gas contract with ENGIE or another provider, the activation fees for your gas meter will be the same. Why? Because the service activation rates are set by the natural gas network operator in your municipality, usually GRDF. Your choice of provider does not affect these fees.
However, the activation cost varies depending on the urgency:
For a standard timeline of 5 working days, the fee is €18.58 including tax (with or without a technician visit), to which you may add:
The “express” surcharge of €41.03 including tax for activation within 2 working days, bringing the total to €59.61 including tax (18.58 + 41.03);
The “emergency” surcharge of €124.43 including tax, totaling €143.01 including tax (1) to have your natural gas meter activated within 24 hours.

Good to Know
The activation fees will appear on your first gas bill: your provider pays GRDF directly. However, there are no “subscription fees”: ENGIE does not charge for creating your customer account.
Switching Natural Gas Providers
Since 2007, all natural gas offers are without any minimum contract duration: you can change providers at any time without fees. Meanwhile, GRDF connects your meter to your new gas provider free of charge. Normally, switching gas providers does not incur special fees. It’s actually a great opportunity to save money by choosing a more advantageous kWh gas price and benefiting from better services! Discover our tips for choosing the right gas offer!

Gas Rates: Understanding the Composition of Gas Offers
When subscribing to gas, you should distinguish in each offer:
The fixed part, which is the subscription you pay monthly. This is calculated according to your consumption class, which directly reflects the amount of gas you use (e.g., the basic rate corresponds to consumption under 1,000 kWh per year);
The kWh price, which is determined by several factors such as your tariff zone, transportation costs borne by your provider, and your consumption class.
Please note that your consumption is displayed in m³ on your gas meter, but in kWh on your invoice. To determine the price per m³ of gas, you must apply a conversion coefficient set by GRDF.
